Another trip to Target

So like I said in my last post I love shopping at Target because you can double your savings by using both a Target coupon AND a manufacturer coupon.
Yesterday I went in and I grabbed a few more little things were on sale and it came to around $13 and change.
I bought 3x Downy fabric softener for $4.99 etc then I used $1 off each (target coupon) and a $4 off when you buy 3(manufacturer) which brings them to 3/$7.97 or $2.66ea.
Next I bought 2x Dawn dish soap for $1.99 and I used $0.50 off each (target) and $1 off when you buy 2 (manufacturer) which brings them to 2/$1.98 or $0.99 ea. Lastly I bought covergirl lipstick. They were on sale for $2.49 and I used $2 off (target) and $2 off (manufacturer). Now I thought Target gave overage, which is why I bought the lipstick. I would have MADE $1.50 on each on I bought so in total I should have got about $5.50 off my other purchases. Apparently they DON'T pay overage so instead I just got them for free! Oh well free lipstick is good too!
And that's it! The rest is tax.
Of you haven't been to Target yet, right now is a good time to go, they have coupon booklet's at the cash registers and if you match them with the newest P&G coupons you can get some really great deal!

Quick target shop!

Well it's been a while since I've posted here, but to be honest it's been a while since I've done any REAL couponing. Today wasn't much of a shop, I only bought 2 things, BUT I did score an awesome deal!
One of the reasons I love target is that they allow you to use 2 coupons on one item as long is one is a target coupon and one is a manufacturer coupon. So today that's exactly what I did. I was out of concealer and eyeliner and I had a couple covergirl P&G brandsaver coupons that are expiring soon that I needed to use, as well as some covergirl target coupons.
I forget how much each one was but they were each around $5-$6...after taxes I probably would have paid about $12-$13. Instead, on each item I used a $2 off covergirl (P&G) and a $2 off covergirl (target) and saved $4 off each item.
In total my purchase came to a whopping $3.80 (taxes included)!!!

Hey everyone, I know I haven't been posting much lately, but that's because I haven't been doing a lot of couponing lately. Well I thought since I don't have any new shopping deals this week, I would share my DON'T PAY MORE list. This is a list I created a while back to remind myself not to pay any more than a specific price for certain items. A lot of these items I have gotten for an even better deal than what is on my list, but those deals don't happen very often and sometimes you run out of things before the amazing deals come back. Nov 19 at Walmart

Just another quick brag post.

Today I went to Walmart and picked up a few things. Everything in the picture cost me only $46.23 and here's how:

Delissio was $4.97 with $2 off = $2.97ea.

Barilla Pasta was $1 with $0.50 off = $0.50ea.

Kraft Flavored Peanut Butter was $3.97 with $1 off = $2.97

Tampax Radiant was $3.92 with $1 off = $2.92ea.

Old Spice Body wash was $3 with $2 off = $1ea.

Finish was 2/$12 with $2 off each one = $4ea.

Windex Touch-Up was $3.97 with $2 off = $1.97.

and lastly the Supersized coloring book was not on sale and I did not have a coupon for it, but it was only $5 and my daughter loves to color so I grabbed it for her!

I paid $6.59 in taxes and saved $27 with coupons alone.

Sobeys savings!

Grocery Day! Always a bit of a crazy day in my house. With us living so far out of town and my husband working nights, grocery day is always a rushed trip to Riverview. We always get groceries at Superstore, and usually we don't have any time left for any extra stops, but today Sobeys had a sale that I just couldn't pass up. So after our regular grocery stop at Superstore, off we went to Sobeys. 

I got 6 Lysol No Touch Hand Soap systems for only $2.49 each!!!! They were on sale for $7.49 (Reg $14.99) and I had $5 off coupon! While I was there I also say the Venus disposables for $6.99 and I had a $3 off coupon so I got one pack for $3.99! Also in the picture is a bottle of Disney Princess Bubble Bath....I didn't have a coupon for that but my daughter saw it and grabbed it and told me that she was all out and that I needed to buy her more, well I couldn't say no to that so I let her grab it. I may not have had a coupon for it, but it was on sale for $3.99! She's learning :-)

Other Ways to Save!

Most of the information I've shared has been about coupons. Ok, other than my stockpile posts, ALL my posts have been about coupons. Well today I'm going to share another way I save money. There's 2 things I'm going to talk about 1) points cards and 2) money saving apps, which I use both frequently.

So let's start with points cards. The ones I use most would be Airmiles and Shoppers Optimum. I've been an Airmiles collector for years, but I just recently found out that now you can sign into airmiles.ca and you can decide whether you want your Airmiles to go into a "dream rewards account" or a "cash rewards account". I have chosen for 100% of my Airmiles to go into the cash rewards account, but you can set yours to any percentage you want. Once I get 95 Airmiles, I can redeem them for $10 off my purchase at participating locations. 

The second points card that I use most often is Shoppers Optimum. I actually use this in 2 ways, I have a bank account with RBC that allows me to earn 1 point for every $1 I spend using my debit card (anywhere). If I shop at shoppers  I can use my debit card and earn 10 point for every $1 I spend, and then if I use my optimum card I get another 10 points for every $1, that's double the points :-). Once I receive 8000 points I can use my optimum card to get $10 off my purchases. The more points you save to use the better the value will be!

Now this is a new one that I just signed up for, and I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I'm sure I am going to absolutely love it! To me it kind of like a cross between a points card and a money saving app. It's called a PC Points Plus card. If you don't have a smartphone or tablet, you can go into any participating Loblaws company and pick up a card. Then when you shop at any of the stores you will be given points for purchasing certain items. Every 1000 points is worth $1, and just by looking at this weeks flyer, I think these points can add up quick! When you go through the checkout line simply show your card and they will scan it and points will be rewarded to your account accordingly, OR if you have already accumulated enough points and you want to use them, tell your cashier and the dollar amount will be deducted from you total bill. WAIT it gets even better? Do you have an Android, IOS, or Blackberry device? You can download the app and use your phone or tablet as your card! With the app you can do more than just collect points. After using it for so long, it will give you custom offers tailored to you depending on what you normally buy. It also has a grocery list option so you can keep your grocery list saved to you phone so you don't have to worry about loosing it. There is also lots of other things you can do with the app, but seeing as I have just downloaded it, I haven't really had much time to check it out, but I think I'm going to love love LOVE this new app! Especially since we do 90% or more of our grocery shopping at Atlantic Superstore!!!

So, the last app that I use to help me save money is called Checkout 51. Every week (Thursday) they refresh their offers with new offers. It's so simple. Before you go to the grocery store, have a look at what this week's Checkout 51 offers are. See anything you like? Pick it up, when your home simply upload the receipt and a certain amount of money will be deposited into your account. Here's an example: Yesterday I bought Clear Shampoo. This week Clear shampoo is one of the offers on Checkout 51. Buy Clear Shampoo get $2 back. So when I got home I uploaded my receipt and $2 was deposited into my account. The bad news is you can only claim each offer once. So even though I bought 3 bottles of shampoo and 3 bottles of conditioner, I was only eligible for the offer once and I only received $2 instead of $12! That's still pretty good considering I used coupons on my Clear and got 2 bottles for $0.99. Oh and that's another thing, with Checkout 51, your still allowed to use coupons on the items your planning on claiming. So yesterday I paid $2.97 for 6 bottles of Clear and then I got $2 back from Checkout 51, so I really just paid $0.97 for 6 bottles of Clear!!!!!!!! Once your account with Checkout 51 reaches $20 you can request a cheque, or you can continue to let your account grow. So far I have cashed out twice with each check totaling around $25! So I've made around $50 for stuff that was already on my grocery list!!

Stock Pile Improvements

Since my last post about my stockpile, I've made some improvements to it, by improvement I really mean I've expanded it into the closet next to my cupboard. I'm still using my cupboard above my washer and dryer (I don't have any pictures because it currently has some Christmas presents in it that I don't want certain people to see). Beside my washer and dryer there has always been a pretty much empty closet, with the exception of a couple old jackets hanging in it, I didn't really use it for much. Well one day I decided that is where I should keep my stock pile, the problem? It was just an empty space with only one small shelf at the top. So I told myself I will keep an eye on shelving units and when they go on sale I will pick one up. Well something better happened. When my husbands grandmother was moving she had one in her basement that was the perfect size for my closet and she said she was just throwing it out so I asked if I could have it instead, and now I have a nice little shelving unit inside my closet to hold a big chunk of my stock pile. To make matters even better? Last night I saw a picture of a fellow couponer's bright idea, a peg board with hooks to hold all the stock pile items that can be hung! I thought it was the greatest idea in the world and I showed my husband and said some day I would like to do this. Well this morning he decided to surprise me and he cut and hung a nice little piece or peg board inside my closet :-)
I'm still constantly moving around items in my stock pile, deciding on how I want the to be stored. Right now I'm trying to keep similar items together, but at the same time I'm trying to keep the most dangerous (cleaners, etc.) out of reach of my 2 year old daughter, so it's not exactly perfect.

Quick stop at Jean Coutu

Today I had to run my friend into town for an appointment. I knew Jean Coutu had Puff's on sale and since my daughter has had a runny nose for almost a week, I figured I better stop in and grab some. While I was there there was a couple other sales I just couldn't resist.
The grand out of pocket total for everything in the picture is $6.85.
Heres the breakdown:
Puffs - sale price $3.99 with $1 off = $2.99 ea.
Colgate - sale price $1.99 with $1 off = $0.99 ea.
Clear Shampoo - sale price $3.99 with $3 off AND buy Shampoo get conditioner FREE = 2 for $0.99!
Total after taxes was $16.85 but I used my airmiles cash rewards to get $10 off which leaves me with a grand out of pocket total of $6.85!!

October 28 , 2013 at Superstore

Ok so I know it's been a while since I've updated any coupon savings, but other than my grocery trips I haven't really been doing much couponing lately. So today was the first time in a long time that I went out shopping looking ONLY at stuff I had coupons for. With that being said, this shopping  trip wasn't anything overly special, but I thought since it has been a while I would share it anyway. Keep in mind, with Christmas coming up I should be doing some awesome shopping  soon!
Everything in this picture cost me $16.33 and here's the breakdown.
Scrubbing Bubbles &  Fantastik triggers were on sale for $2. I used 1 $1.50 off and 1 buy one get one free so I paid $2.50 for all 3.
Barilla Pasta was on sale for $0.99 and I used 2 $0.50 off making them 0.49 each.
Shaving  cream was on sale for $3 and I used a buy one get one free making each bottle $1.50
I don't remember the sale price of the Dole fruit cups but I had $1 off.
Stickers were not coupon related but they were included in the total price so I included them in the picture. They were $1.99 each!
**Also included in the total price is 3 packages of Knorr Sidekicks. I completely forgot to put them in the picture, so when I was doing my breakdown I didn't include them. I kept thinking that the prices just didn't up with my total and I kept wonderingwhy until I wwent to cook supper and remembered "I got Sidekicks too!" The sSidekicks were on sale for $1 each and I used a coupon for $1 off when you buy 3. So I paid $2 for 3! 

They rest is all taxes!

Dog food sale!

So like I mentioned before, I have 2 medium/large breed dogs. I have always just bought them store brand/cheap food because let's face it, dog food is expensive, especially when they go through at an 8kg bag of food every week. So you can imagine how happy I was a while back when one of the inserts included a $5 off 8kg bags of Pedigree dog food! It worked out that I really wasn't saving any money, but dogs could eat one of the better kinds of dog food, and I wasn't spending any more than normal.
Well, at the end of the month, my $5 Pedigree coupons are expiring and I've been wondering what I am going to do because now I don't want to switch them back to the cheap stuff. So imagine how excited I was when I discovered that Pedigree was going on sale at Walmart!
Normally the 8kg bags retail at about $19 a bag. With $5 off each bag, I've been paying about $14 a bag. Well, this week Walmart had it on sale, for let's just say $15 (I don't remember exact change but it was $14.90 something). To make it even better I had just found a printable buy 2 get one FREE coupon!!!  So of course, I had to use this sale to my advantage! While I was there I of course picked up a couple other great sales. Everything in the picture ended up costing just under $60!

So here's the breakdown :

Pedigree, I bought 6 bags and used 6 coupons. Each bag was $15 and I used 4 $5 off and 2 buy 2 get one FREE which means I got 6 bags for $40!! 

Clear was on rollback at Walmart for $3.62 and I had 6 coupons for $3 off. So I paid $0.62 each. (I actually bought 6 bottles, not 5. There is only 5 in the picture because one fell out in my dad's truck and I didnt realise until I got home) 

Last but not least, Children's Advil. It was on sale at Walmart for $4 and I had $3 off so I only paid $1!!

So that's it. Before taxes i only spent around $45!

Quick shopping trip.

This morning I realized I was out of bacon and eggs so before breakfast I ran into the small local grocery store. While I was there I decided I would use my FPC's(FREE product coupons).
I can't really give a breakdown of the prices because I didn't even look at them. Just grabbed what I needed and left. But everything only cost $13! Everything except the bacon, eggs and bread were FREE!!

Aug 15,2013 Jean Coutu sales.

Well yesterday I got some great deals, even though I screwed up in one of the worst possible ways.... I miscounted and didn't give the cashier enough coupons :-(  Even with my screw up I still walked away with a lot of stuff for a little bit of money. Everything in the picture cost me only $23...Although it should have only cost me $18.
Im not 100% sure of the breakdown of the batteries but I can explain everything else!
Charmin was $3.99 and I had $1 off making it $2.99.
Tide was $5.99 with $2 off making it $3.99
Finish was $6.99 with $3 off making it $3.99
Tooth brushes were on sale 4/$5 ($1.25 each)  with a limit of 6 per customer. So I bought 6 for $7.50. I had 2 save $4.50 when you buy 3 which actually left me with a total of -$1.50!!!
And lastly the batteries. They were on sale for $3.99, $4.99 and $6.49. I had $5 off each pack. I'm not sure how many of which ones I bought I just grabbed some of what was left. In total I bought 8 packs of batteries, and this is where I screwed up. When I put the batteries in my cart I counted 7 packs, so I got out 7 coupons and gave them to the cashier. I was wondering why my total was higher than expected but I figured I must have miscalculated the taxes (I've done this before). Once I got everything  loaded into the car and got my daughter buckled into her carseat, I looked at the receipt and realized my mistake. I could have went in and returned a pack to cover myself but I decided I still got a good deal, even though I paid full price for on of the packs of batteries.

Pet supplies!!

Ok, so I've been meaning to write this for a while now but haven't been able to find time. Last week I got some great deals on pet supplies. Right now I have 5 pets, 2 large breed dogs and 3 cats, one of which just had 4 kittens, so I guess you could say right now I have 9 critters!! Needles to say this score was a HUGE help on to wallets!
Everything in the picture only cost me $52 and change(after taxes) , the dog food being the most expensive part, costing $34. Just the cat food and litter only cost me $18(after taxes)!
How did I get it all so cheap?
Pedigree dog food (wasn't on sale) cost $18.69 and I used a $5 off coupon on each bag, making each bag $13.69
Purine kitten food was $6.99 but I had 2 FPC's (FREE product coupon) making both bags FREE!
Whiskas cat food was $6.99 and I had 1 FPC and 1 $2 off so I paid $4.99 for one bag and the other was FREE!
Cans of wet cat food were $0.69 and again I had 2 FPC's so both cans were FREE!
And the Maxx Scoop Cat Litter was $8.49 and I had 2 $5 off coupons making each one only $3.49!

Binder Organization

So here is my big binder! I do not go to Moncton without it! I think I've spent about $7-$8 on it and that was just for the plastic sheets that hold my coupons. The binder itself is one I used to have in college. It's old, it's stained and dirty, but it holds everything I need in order to do my couponing and more!

On the very front of my binder is a pocket. I do a lot of coupon trading so I need lots of envelopes always on hand. I keep them in this front pocket so I'm never looking for envelopes when I'm getting a trade ready. I got married last fall and I had almost a whole pack of blank wedding invitations left so I took the envelopes out of the kit and threw them in my binder!

As soon as I open my binder, on the left hand side there is an accordion style pocket. This is where I keep all my "bigger things". There's a notebook in there that I use when I do my weekly match-ups, as well as some spare paper for notes or whatever else I may need it for. I also keep my flyers in here. It's always good to have your flyers with you, especially if your price matching at Walmart, so I put mine in here so I always know where they are. I also keep any coupons that haven`t been clipped yet in here!

This is this inside of my binder! On the left hand side I keep a couple pens and a pair of scissors. Again, I like to keep my stuff all in one spot and you never know when you might need either of these when your couponing. There is also a see-through mesh pocket with a zipper. This is where I keep my coupons when I am shopping. When I am shopping, as soon as I put something in my cart that I have a coupon for, I immediately take out the coupon and put it in this pocket. That way when I get to the cash I don`t have to spend a lot of time finding all the right coupons for the right items, they are all right here and ready to be used!

On the right hand side there is, what I think is, a pencil case that snaps into the binder along with everything else. This actually came out of a different zipper binder that I had in high school! The top see through zipper pocket is where I keep all my receipts. I like to have an idea of how much I saved, so I keep my receipts. This is where they all go. The bottom mesh pocket is where I keep stamps. When you do a lot of coupon trading, you can never have enough stamps so I buy them buy the book and I keep them in here. Lastly, there is a zipper down the side and that is a pocket as well. In there is where I keep any coupons that don't fit in the plastic sheets. 

Now for the coupons. I have my coupons divided into 7 categories but I only had 5 tab dividers so I had to play with it some to make it work. 

I try to keep my categories divided into sub categories, and then the sub categories divided alphabetically, but that doesn't always work out so well where I'm always getting new and different coupons.

First is FOOD. 

Second is CLEANING. In my cleaning category I have it divided like this: Dishes, Laundry, "All Purpose" cleaning solutions (Scrubbing Bubbles, Mr. Clean, etc.), "Smellies" (Febreze, Glade, etc.), and Other.

Third is PAPER PRODUCTS, DIAPERS AND WIPES. Divided into 2 subcategories, paper products (toilet paper, paper towel and facial tissue) and diapers and wipes.

Fourth is TOILETRIES. I divided my toiletries into these sub categories: Hair (shampoo/conditioner, hair dye, etc.), Shaving (razors, shave gels, etc.), Dental (tooth paste, mouth wash, etc.), Deodorant, Lotion/Soap, Make-Up, and Other.

Fifth is PETS. Any pet related coupons go here.

Sixth is PHARMACY. Any pharmacy related coupons go here. 

Seventh is OTHER. Any coupons that I can find a spot for in any of my other categories go at the back of my book behind everything else (Batteries, Build-a-Bear, Raid, etc.).

Finally, the actual coupons! I went to the dollar store and purchased 6 or 7 packs of sports card protection sheets. If you go to the dollar store and can't find them, don't be fooled like I was. They are not in office and school supply section like you would think they would be (or at least like I did). They're actually in the sports card section.
Each page holds 9 different coupons. In my binder EVERY COUPON has its own spot! I do not put 2 different coupons in the same slot. If I have multiples of the same coupon I will of course put them in together.

Usually when I'm organizing my binder I like to leave a few blank spots, especially in between my sub categories, since I don't have dividers for them. When I first got my binder I had them in there one right after another, and then I would get a new coupon and I wouldn't have a place to put it, so I would have to spend an hour re-organizing my binder to make room for one coupon. I quickly learned that if I leave a few blank spots then it will be easier to make room for the new ones when I get them.

Pay Attention!

There hasn't been a whole lot on sale lately that I needed/wanted bad enough to make an extra trip to town, so I haven't posted anything in the last week or so.

Yesterday I was in town with a friend, who was curious to see me in action with my coupons. Sobeys had a few airmiles sales so I decided to stop there and pick up a few things and build up my airmiles account. There was only a couple things that I wanted to get with airmiles but I planned on getting 40-50 airmiles for the trip. When I got there they were sold out of one thing, so I ended up changing my plan and buying something else that still gave me airmiles, just not as many.

So why did I call this post "Pay Attention"? Well because I didn't and I screwed up and got 10 less airmiles then I should have. Am I still happy with what I got? Of course! I'm just a little disappointed that I didn't catch my mistake in time.

So in the picture is everything  I bought. I paid $27 and change and I got 37 airmiles!!!

Here's the breakdown:

Whiskas wet food packs were on sale for $5.99 and if you bought 2 you got 5 airmiles. I got 2 and used 2 coupons for $2 off making them $3.99 each!

Olay and Old Spice body washes were on sale for $2.99 and if you bought 3 you got 10 airmiles! I had a coupon that was for $4 off when you buy 2 different brands (Olay and Old Spice were 2 of the brands on the list). I bought 12 (6 of each) and used 6 coupons for $4 off which brought the total to $0.99 for each bottle.
Because I bought 12 bottles I should have gotten 40 airmiles but I only got 30. Why? Because I accidentally grabbed a bottle of Compliments brand men's body wash (which looks almost identical to the Old Spice). I didn't notice and obviously neither did the cashier (because she accepted my coupon) but the cash register did and didn't reward me my extra 10 airmiles.

I'm still happy with my results but I wanted to share my mistake to remind you guys to make sure you pay attention to what your putting in you cart!

July 22 deals continued...

Yesterday I went shopping and got some awesome deals. Last night I posted about my trip to Jean Coutu and said I would be posting my trip to Walmart. Well, I fell asleep and am just getting time to do it now.

So this picture is missing a few things.  Before I came home I stopped at a friends house and she took a few things! Including the things she took, my total ammount spent was just under $35! Missing from the picture is 1 bottle of Febreze, 1 bottle of Mr. Clean, 1 tube of Crest tooth paste and 1 Secret deodorant.

Here's the breakdown of what I spent:

Whiskas 2kg Catfood: on sale at Walmart for $6.98. I used a coupon for $2 off, so I paid $4.98

Whiskas 1.5kg Kitten food: was on sale at Superstore for $6.99 (wasn't included in Walmart sale) so I price matched and then used a $2 off coupon, so I paid $4.99 

Downey Unstopables weren't on sale, but I needed them so I paid full price at $6.98,but I still had a coupon for $1 off, so I paid $5.98.

Mr. Clean: I price matched Jean Coutu's 3 for $5 sale. I bought 6 for $10 and I used 3 coupons for save $2.50 when you buy 2, so I paid $2.50 for 6!

Febreze: I price matched Jean Coutu's 2 for $5 sale. I bought 4 for $10 and used 2 coupons for save $3 when you buy 2, so I paid $4 for 4.

Crest tooth paste: I price matched Jean Coutu's 3 for $5 sale. I bought 6 for $10 and used 2 coupons for save $4.50 when you buy 3, so I paid $1 for 6!!! 

Secret deodorant: I'm not sure if it was on sale at Walmart or just regular price (I didn't see a sale tag). It was $2.49 for 1. I bought 6 for $14.94 and used 6 save $2 coupons, so I paid $2.94 for 6!!

So before taxes, I only paid $26.39 for everything in the picture below!!  

Needless to say after yesterday's shopping trip my "stock pile cupboard" is pretty much full. If I absolutely need to I might be able to make more room, but I think my next big trip might have to include a new shelf.
